Metrology inside petroleum storage facilities

When planning a new train tunnel, it became vital for Stinger’s client to document the exact shape and geographical position of petroleum storage facilities inside a mountain.

The total depth and length of these cisterns were estimated to be about 15 and
150 metres respectively, and the only access to them was through a pipe. Using MiroROV technology as an instrument platform, Stinger developed methods and
equipment to perform exact metrology inside
the filled and very confined underground space.
